Maharashtra Seizes ₹52 Crore Ahead of Assembly Elections

Mumbai, 25th Oct. Law enforcement agencies in Maharashtra, where the model code of conduct is currently in effect ahead of next month’s assembly elections, seized goods worth ₹52 crore in just 24 hours, officials reported on Thursday.

Since the announcement of the assembly elections on October 15, a total of 19 law enforcement agencies have confiscated goods valued at ₹90.74 crore across the state. The agencies involved in these operations include the police, Income Tax Department, Revenue Intelligence, Narcotics Control Bureau, and Customs and Excise departments. The seizures took place in various districts, including Mumbai Suburban, Nagpur, and Ratnagiri.

In addition to the seizures, the Election Commission (EC) stated that 1,144 complaints of poll code violations have been reported via the cVIGIL app, with 99 percent of these complaints resolved. The cVIGIL mobile app was launched to enable citizens to report election code violations quickly.

Maharashtra is set to hold its assembly elections on November 20, with the results to be counted on November 23.
