Mumbai, 19th Feb. The Maharashtra government appointed IPS officer Rajnish Seth (IPS:1988:MH) as the new Director General of Police of the state on Friday.
DGP Rajnish Seth replaced Sanjay Pandey (IPS:1986:MH), who held the additional charge of the post since April 9, 2021.
Prior to this, Seth was serving as Director General (DG) of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
The Bombay High Court recently pulled up the Maharashtra government for favouring acting DGP Sanjay Pandey for the post and had asked the state government to make an appointment for the post of DGP by February 21.
IPS Rajnish Seth will retire in Dec 2023 and thus will have a long tenure as the DGP of Maharashtra.
In March 2021, IPS Rajnish Seth was appointed as the acting DGP before he was transferred as DG, ACB, and Sanjay Pandey was brought in his place.
