“Maharani Abbakka Embodied Fearlessness and Unity”: RSS Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale

RSS Pays Tribute to Maharani Abbakka on Her 500th Birth Anniversary

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has paid homage to Ullala Maharani Abbakka, Bharat’s fearless woman freedom fighter, on her 500th birth anniversary. Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale issued a statement honoring her legacy as a master administrator, strategist, and valiant ruler who fiercely defended her kingdom against Portuguese invaders.

Maharani Abbakka ruled the Ullala Samsthan in present-day Coastal Karnataka and gained recognition for repeatedly thwarting Portuguese advances, forming strategic alliances, including with the Zamorin of Kerala, to protect her territory. Her unmatched courage earned her the title “Abhayarani” (Fearless Queen).

In addition to her military prowess, Maharani Abbakka championed inclusivity, promoting cultural and religious harmony while ensuring holistic development across society. Her tales of bravery are immortalized in Karnataka’s folk traditions, Yakshagana performances, and historical narratives.

The Government of India honored her memory with a commemorative postal stamp in 2003, and a patrol vessel was named after her in 2009, symbolizing her naval legacy.

The RSS called upon society to draw inspiration from Maharani Abbakka’s life and contribute to nation-building, celebrating her as a beacon of courage and unity.
