New Delhi, 11th Jan: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the teachings and writings of Shrimad Vijayaratna Sunder Surishwarji Maharaj offer simple yet profound spiritual solutions to many of humanity’s challenges, as he addressed the release of Maharaj’s 500th book through a video message.
Calling the occasion sacred, the Prime Minister paid tributes to senior Jain acharyas and saints present at the ceremony and congratulated members of the Urja Mahotsav Committee for organising the event. He described Maharaj’s personality as a rare blend of restraint, simplicity and clarity, noting that his words carry compassion, depth and lived experience.
Highlighting the theme of the 500th book — Premnu Vishva, Vishvano Prem — Modi said the work is more than a book and should be seen as a mantra for love, peace and harmony in a world struggling with division and conflict. He said Maharaj’s 500 works together form an ocean of wisdom, reflecting the timeless Jain principles of non-violence, non-possessiveness, tolerance, harmony and many-sidedness in a modern context.
Recalling the Jain principle of Parasparopagraho Jivanam — that all life is interdependent — the Prime Minister said it encourages people to think beyond individual aspirations and work for society, the nation and humanity.
Modi also reiterated nine resolutions for social and national transformation: saving water, planting a tree in one’s mother’s name, cleanliness, being vocal for local, promoting Bharat Darshan, adopting natural farming, following a healthy lifestyle, embracing yoga and sports, and committing to helping the poor.
“India today is among the youngest nations in the world. Our youth are building a developed India while also strengthening cultural roots,” he said, adding that guidance from saints and their literature plays a vital role in shaping the nation’s moral and cultural journey.
The Prime Minister extended his best wishes on the release of the 500th book and expressed confidence that Maharaj’s thoughts would continue to illuminate India’s intellectual and human path.
