Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is set to retire from Rajya Sabha tomorrow, marking the end of his 33-year-long career. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge penned a heartfelt letter acknowledging Singh’s work, the policies he implemented during his time as PM and finance minister, and his lasting legacy.

In the letter, Kharge expressed that with Manmohan Singh’s retirement, an era is coming to a close. He commended Singh for his significant contributions to the nation and its people, stating that very few have achieved as much as he has.

Kharge thanked Singh for his guidance and wisdom, highlighting the privilege of serving under his leadership. Despite personal challenges, Singh always made himself available to the Congress party, for which Kharge expressed eternal gratitude.

Kharge lauded Singh’s economic policies, emphasizing their broad benefits to various segments of society. He credited Singh for lifting 27 crore people out of poverty, the highest number globally during his tenure as Prime Minister. Singh was hailed as a hero to the middle class, a mentor to entrepreneurs, and a savior to those who escaped poverty due to his policies.

Additionally, Kharge praised Singh for introducing the MGNREGA scheme, which continues to support rural workers during crises. He highlighted Singh’s achievements, including the historic Indo-US Nuclear Deal, and recalled former US President Obama’s praise for Singh’s global influence.

Kharge criticized current leaders for failing to acknowledge Singh’s contributions due to political biases. He noted that the economic reforms initiated during Singh’s tenure laid the groundwork for the nation’s current prosperity. Kharge lamented the loss of Singh’s dignified presence in Parliament and urged him to continue sharing his wisdom with the nation even in retirement.

As Singh prepares to step back from active politics, Kharge expressed hope that he will remain a moral compass for the country, offering peace, health, and happiness in his future endeavors.
