New Delhi: The Lok Sabha is set for a crucial day on Tuesday as it takes up discussions on four key bills and an hour-long debate on the statutory resolution seeking approval for President’s Rule in Manipur. The session will also witness deliberations on the Manipur budget, which was presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The resumption of the Parliament Budget Session has already seen heated exchanges between the government and opposition, particularly over the National Education Policy (NEP) in Tamil Nadu. The first day of the second part of the session was marked by intense debates, with the opposition strongly contesting the policy’s implementation in the state.
In a parallel development, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, along with opposition parties, has raised concerns regarding alleged discrepancies in voter lists, calling for a detailed discussion in Parliament. Addressing the Lok Sabha, Gandhi claimed that voter lists were being questioned across the country, urging the government to respond to the opposition’s demand for an in-depth examination of the issue.
Another potential flashpoint in the session is the Waqf Amendment Bill, which the government is keen to pass. The bill is expected to spark sharp exchanges between the ruling party and opposition benches, as debates over its provisions continue to intensify.
Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned on February 13, concluding the first part of the Budget Session. With major discussions lined up, including on Manipur’s governance and key legislative changes, the second phase of the session is expected to be politically charged.
