Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Honors Former Speaker K.S. Hegde

New Delhi, 11th June: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday led a heartfelt tribute to former Lok Sabha Speaker K.S. Hegde on his birth anniversary. The ceremony took place at Hegde’s portrait in Samvidhan Sadan, honoring his distinguished public service.

Many prominent figures joined Speaker Birla. These included Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, current and former Members of Parliament, Lok Sabha Secretary-General Utpal Kumar Singh, Rajya Sabha Secretary-General P.C. Mody, and senior officials from both Secretariats.

K.S. Hegde’s Lasting Legacy
K.S. Hegde was known as a brilliant parliamentarian and a highly respected jurist. His public service career began in 1952 when he was elected to the Rajya Sabha. He served there until 1957, when he resigned to become a Judge of the then Mysore High Court. Later, he rose to be the Chief Justice of both the Delhi and Himachal Pradesh High Courts.

In 1967, Hegde was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of India, serving until his resignation in 1973. He returned to politics in 1977, winning a seat in the Sixth Lok Sabha. On July 21, 1977, he was elected Speaker of the Lok Sabha, succeeding Dr. Neelam Sanjiva Reddy. After leaving the Speaker’s Office in January 1980, Hegde settled in his native Karnataka. He passed away on May 24, 1990.

To commemorate his life and contributions, the Lok Sabha Secretariat released a booklet featuring K.S. Hegde’s profile in both Hindi and English, which was distributed to the dignitaries at the event.
