New Delhi, 25th Nov. Members of the Lok Sabha attending the Winter Session of Parliament, which begins on Monday, will now have the option to mark their attendance digitally using a digital pen on an electronic tab. This initiative is part of Speaker Om Birla’s ongoing efforts to make Parliament paperless.
According to the Lok Sabha Secretariat, electronic tabs will be placed at four counters in the lobby of the Lok Sabha chamber. While physical attendance registers will still be available, members are encouraged to use the tabs as their preferred method to help transition to a paperless Parliament.
To mark their attendance, members will select their names from a drop-down menu on the tab, affix their digital signatures using the pen, and press the ‘submit’ button. A team of engineers from the National Informatics Centre will be present at each counter to provide technical support.
Attendance must be marked in the register to avail of daily allowances during the session. Previously, Lok Sabha members used a mobile app to record their attendance.
