New Delhi, 21st Dec. The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die on Thursday, one day earlier than scheduled. During the Winter session, a total of 100 MPs were suspended from the Lower House, including three on Thursday, due to their unruly behavior and misconduct.
The opposition had been demanding a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah regarding a security breach that occurred on December 13. On that day, two individuals breached security and entered the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during Zero Hour. They released yellow smoke from canisters and shouted slogans before being overpowered by some MPs. This incident took place on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack.
The Lok Sabha passed three important bills to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Indian Evidence Act. The House also approved a bill to establish a mechanism for the appointment of the chief election commissioner and election commissioners.
TMC’s Mahua Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha after the House accepted the recommendation of the House ethics committee. Moitra was found guilty of asking questions in Parliament in exchange for cash and gifts. She criticized the decision, referring to it as the ruling of a “kangaroo court.”
The Winter session, which began on December 4 and was originally scheduled to conclude on December 22, ended a day early on Thursday.
