Palai, 23rd Oct: President Droupadi Murmu graced the valedictory function of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of St. Thomas College, Palai, today.
Addressing the gathering, President Murmu highlighted the transformative power of education in shaping individual and collective destinies. “Educational institutions like St. Thomas College are workshops where destinies are shaped. The light of education illuminates the path to progress,” she said.
She commended the college for its 75-year legacy of providing quality education, particularly to students from rural areas, and for promoting holistic learning, sustainability, and social justice.
President Murmu underlined Kerala’s achievements in human development, attributing them to the power of literacy, education, and knowledge. She noted that Kottayam, where the college is located, has a rich history of social and educational reforms, including the historic Vaikom Satyagrah and the influential library movement led by Shri P.N. Panicker, inspired by the message “Vayichu Valaruga” (Read and Grow).
“The 21st century is the century of knowledge. Knowledge that drives innovation propels society forward and fosters self-reliance,” the President added, emphasizing the role of institutions like St. Thomas College in building an equitable and developed India by 2047.
