Let Us Uphold Ideals of Constitution with Integrity: RS Chairman Dhankhar

New Delhi, 9th Dec. Marking the anniversary of the first sitting of India’s Constituent Assembly, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar delivered a poignant address in the Upper House, emphasizing the historical significance of December 9, 1946. This day heralded the journey toward crafting the Indian Constitution, a document that continues to underpin the nation’s democratic ethos.

Recalling the inaugural session chaired by Dr. Sachchidananda Sinha, the Chairman highlighted his pivotal role as the oldest parliamentarian of the time. The session also saw messages of felicitation from the United States, China, and Australia.

The Chairman praised the stalwarts of the Assembly, including Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who navigated ideological differences to draft the Constitution with a vision for a united, independent India.

He underscored the Rajya Sabha’s responsibility to uphold constitutional principles, urging members to adopt the spirit of constructive dialogue and mutual respect exemplified by the Constituent Assembly.

“This House derives its strength from the Constitution. Let us commit ourselves to high standards of parliamentary proceedings and resolve to serve the people of India with integrity,” he remarked.

The address concluded with a call for renewed dedication to the ideals enshrined in the Constitution, inspiring members to maintain exemplary conduct and uphold the legacy of India’s founding visionaries.
