New Delhi, 13th July. Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda chaired a comprehensive review meeting on Friday to assess the progress of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) and Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
During the meeting, it was highlighted that the scheme has achieved significant milestones with the creation of 34.7 crore Ayushman Cards and over 7.35 crore hospital admissions, amounting to more than ₹1 lakh crore in healthcare services provided.
Deepti Gaur Mukherjee, CEO of the National Health Authority (NHA), presented the current status and operational aspects of these initiatives.
Emphasizing the importance of universal health coverage, J P Nadda directed officials to ensure that the benefits of these schemes reach the most vulnerable sections of society effectively. He underscored the need for proactive resolution of challenges hindering the implementation of PMJAY in coordination with the states.
“To facilitate easier access to Ayushman Cards under AB-PMJAY, especially in urban areas, we must adopt a bottom-up approach,” stated Shri Nadda, advocating for flexible systems to streamline the enrollment process.
Nadda also stressed the use of technology to connect directly with beneficiaries, enabling them to share their healthcare experiences. This, he noted, would enhance service delivery and improve patient care.
The meeting also reviewed fraud prevention measures and the National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX), which facilitates paperless settlement of insurance claims, integrating 33 insurance companies covering 99% of the market.
Dr. Basant Garg, Additional CEO of NHA, along with senior officials from the Union Health Ministry, participated in the deliberations.
The Union Health Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding healthcare access and ensuring quality services under the visionary Ayushman Bharat initiatives.
