Purnea, 15th Sept: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday laid the foundation stone and inaugurated development projects worth about ₹40,000 crore in Purnea, Bihar, declaring that the district is now firmly on India’s aviation map with the launch of its first commercial flight. He said the wide-ranging projects—covering rail, power, housing and irrigation—would accelerate growth in the long-neglected Seemanchal region.

Addressing a large public gathering, Modi noted that over 40,000 families had received permanent homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and reiterated the government’s resolve to provide housing to every poor household. He also announced a major festival-season relief: GST rates on many daily-use items, including kitchen staples and school supplies, will be reduced nationwide from September 22.

The Prime Minister highlighted a landmark step for Bihar’s farmers with the formal notification of the National Makhana Board. Backed by a ₹475 crore development plan, the board will promote technology-driven cultivation and ensure better prices for makhana growers. Modi also inaugurated the Purnea Airport terminal, built in a record five months, and flagged off multiple new train services, including Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat routes and the Araria–Galgalia line.

Emphasising women’s empowerment, Modi announced a ₹500 crore Community Investment Fund to strengthen self-help groups, praising Bihar’s “Lakhpati Didis” and “Drone Didis” for leading a grassroots economic transformation.

Issuing a sharp warning on illegal migration, the Prime Minister described infiltration as a “grave demographic crisis” for Bihar and neighbouring states. “It is the law of India that will prevail—not the whims of infiltrators. This is Modi’s guarantee,” he declared, accusing opposition parties of shielding illegal entrants for vote-bank politics.

The event, coinciding with Engineers’ Day, was attended by Bihar Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and several Union ministers. Modi invoked Purnea’s historic role in India’s freedom struggle and called for sustained efforts to maintain Bihar’s current momentum of development.
