Patna, 30th July: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Wednesday filed his nomination for the post of the party’s National President for an unprecedented 13th consecutive term, a move that solidifies his continued leadership ahead of the crucial Bihar Assembly elections. He was accompanied by prominent family members, including his son and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, wife Rabri Devi, daughter Misa Bharti, and a host of senior party leaders.

The RJD state headquarters in Patna transformed into a vibrant scene of celebration as a large number of party workers gathered, their chants of “Lalu Yadav Zindabad” echoing through the premises, creating a highly emotional and festive atmosphere. Speaking to the media amidst the excitement, Tejashwi Yadav expressed his delight at his father’s re-nomination.

“Lalu Prasad Yadav has completed 12 terms as the National President, and now he has filed for the 13th. It is a matter of great happiness that the party will continue to receive his guidance,” Tejashwi Yadav stated, emphasizing the party’s reliance on his father’s veteran leadership.

According to party sources, the 2 PM deadline for filing nominations for the top post passed with no other candidates stepping forward, making Lalu Prasad Yadav’s re-election virtually certain. The formal announcement of his unopposed re-election is anticipated on July 5. The party plans to commemorate this day as “Lalu Samman Diwas” (Lalu Honour Day).

However, a notable absence at the nomination event was that of former Bihar RJD President Jagdanand Singh, whose recent public differences with Tejashwi Yadav have been a subject of intense political speculation. His non-attendance at such a significant party event has further fueled discussions about potential internal rifts within the RJD.

Despite this, the overall mood among party workers at the event was one of renewed energy and enthusiasm. RJD leaders indicated that the party is now gearing up to enter full election mode under Lalu Yadav’s seasoned leadership. “The RJD organisation is strong. Our workers are energised and ready for the elections,” Tejashwi Yadav affirmed, projecting confidence for the electoral battle ahead.

Lalu Yadav’s continued leadership is widely perceived as a strategic decision aimed at unifying the party cadre and consolidating its traditional vote base as the RJD prepares for the high-stakes Bihar Assembly election.
