Patna, 3rd Nov: Senior JDU leader and Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, popularly known as Lalan Singh, has alleged a conspiracy behind the arrest of party candidate Anant Singh in a murder case, claiming the influential leader will win the upcoming Mokama Assembly election with an even bigger margin than before.

Lalan Singh, who represents Munger in the Lok Sabha and is considered the No. 2 in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JDU, visited Mokama on Monday to campaign ahead of the November 6 polls. His visit comes amid political uproar over the arrest of five-time MLA and local strongman Anant Singh in connection with the killing of Dular Singh Yadav, a gangster-turned-politician.

“The entire episode appears to be part of a conspiracy. How did a slab found on railway tracks reach there? The police will get to the bottom of this,” Lalan Singh told NDTV. He also dismissed allegations of double standards in backing a tainted candidate, saying, “Arrest does not make someone a criminal. Let the investigation take its course.”

Postmortem findings have revealed that Dular Singh Yadav died due to cardiorespiratory failure caused by blunt injuries to the heart and lungs, not from a bullet wound. Two others, Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram, have also been arrested in the case.

Lalan Singh, addressing JDU workers, urged them to stay united and said he had taken charge of the campaign. “The conspiracy will be exposed. No one’s morale should be lowered,” he said.

Anant Singh, known for his clout in Mokama, has previously won the seat five times. He faces RJD’s Veena Devi, wife of rival strongman Suraj Bhan, in the upcoming election.
