Kurukshetra, Feb. 06-The Smt. Mewa Wati Goel Award for the years 2024 and 2025 was conferred upon Ms. Riya Pahuja and Ms. Neha Prasher, respectively, for securing First Class First position in MA Economics at Kurukshetra University.
The award ceremony was organized by the Department of Economics, in collaboration with the Kurukshetra University Alumni Association (KUKAA), at the Senate Hall, Kurukshetra University, on February 6, 2026. The function was graced by the presence of Prof. Som Nath Sachdeva, Vice-Chancellor, Kurukshetra University, and Prof. K. K. Aggarwal, President, South Asian University, New Delhi, along with faculty members, students, and alumni. Mr. Akshay Kirti Jain was present as guest of honour on the occasion.
The Smt. Mewa Wati Goel Award has been instituted by Prof. Madan Mohan Goel, a distinguished alumnus of the Department of Economics, Kurukshetra University, where he earned his MA, MPhil, and PhD degrees. Prof. Goel has also served the University in several academic and administrative capacities, including Teacher, Chairperson of the Department, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and Dean of Colleges.
The award has been established in memory of his mother, Smt. Mewa Wati Goel, and is presented annually to the topper of the MA (Economics) programme at Kurukshetra University. The initiative reflects Prof. Goel’s deep commitment to academic excellence and his belief in nurturing merit and motivation among students of economics.
Such awards play a vital role in encouraging scholastic achievement, fostering a culture of excellence, and inspiring young scholars to pursue higher academic and professional goals.
