Kolkata, 15th Oct: A second-year student of a private engineering college in Kolkata has alleged that she was raped by a classmate after being drugged, police said. The accused was arrested from Anandapur in southern Kolkata.
The student, who had come to West Bengal for studies, filed a complaint at Anandapur Police Station claiming she became unconscious after consuming drinks laced with drugs and was subsequently raped.
A senior police officer said, “The student alleged that she was staying in a rented flat in Anandapur, where the accused mixed drugs in her drinks. She became unconscious and was later raped.”
The accused had gone into hiding but was apprehended upon returning home. He was produced before a city court and sent to police custody until October 22.
Police added that the investigation is underway, and further details will be shared soon.
This incident comes shortly after a medical college student in Durgapur, West Bengal, was allegedly gang-raped outside her campus.
