Kolhapur laid the foundation of Indian cinema – Dr. Kavita Gagrani

Mumbai, 11th May. Kavita Gagrani highlighted Kolhapur’s contribution in the Film Industry during the 48th lecture of Maharashtra Diamond Festival Lecture Series by Maharashtra Information Center, New Delhi.

She said that Kolhapur has contributed significantly in providing artistic and technical status to the Indian film industry. That is, Kolhapur has laid the foundation of the Indian film industry.

She further said that the contribution of the film industry and Kolhapur can be explained in two parts of this subject. One – the contribution of Kolhapur in the Marathi film industry and the other in the Indian film industry.

Likewise films also have two parts – a silent film and the other talkies film. Silent movie was from 1913 to 1932. India’s first silent film Raja Harishchandra was produced by Dada Saheb Phalke. While talkies movies starting from 1932 have continued since today.

Marathi film industry can also be divided into two parts – first from 1932 to 1960 and then after the creation of Maharashtra from 1960 to till date. Dr. Gagrani further said that in the year 1932 From 1960 Between, several experiments were done in the Marathi film industry.
