Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has strongly refuted the allegations made by Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee regarding the Sandeshkhali case, asserting that Banerjee’s claims are baseless and misleading.

Rijiju emphasized that Banerjee, being a Member of Parliament, should refrain from disseminating falsehoods and demanded an apology for his misleading statements.

Addressing reporters on Tuesday, Rijiju dismissed Banerjee’s assertion that the state police was unable to arrest Sandeshkhali prime accused, Sheikh Shahjahan, due to legal complications. Rijiju emphasized that Banerjee’s claims were unfounded, stating unequivocally that no court, including the Calcutta High Court, would shield a criminal. Rijiju stressed the seriousness of the allegations, highlighting the gravity of crimes against women and the imperative for truthfulness in public discourse.

Commenting on the state of law and order in West Bengal, Rijiju expressed concern over the alleged misuse of police authority and highlighted the need for accountability and transparency in law enforcement.

Rijiju affirmed that the entire nation stands behind women protesters in Sandeshkhali, emphasizing the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment through legislative measures such as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Women’s Reservation Bill.

Rijiju lauded the Narendra Modi government’s efforts in reforming the criminal code and advancing gender equality, underscoring the passage of transformative legislation for the benefit of women across the country.

Meanwhile, in response to the Calcutta High Court’s directives, which ordered the inclusion of Sheikh Shahjahan in the Sandeshkhali case, the Trinamool Congress announced that Shahjahan would be apprehended within a week, signaling a significant development in the ongoing investigation.
