Khattar Unveils ₹57,000 Cr Drainage Master Plan for Delhi

New Delhi, 19th Sept: Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday launched a ₹57,000-crore drainage master plan to tackle Delhi’s chronic waterlogging and prepare the city’s network for the next 30 years of urban growth.

Khattar said the Centre will assist the Delhi government in implementing the plan, which divides the city into three basins—Najafgarh, Barapullah and Trans-Yamuna—and appoints consultants to redesign the drainage system.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta welcomed the Centre’s funding support, noting that her administration began with on-site inspections of nallahs and legacy waterlogging points. “We have great teamwork; we do not work from air-conditioned rooms,” she said, accusing past governments of offering only “lollipops” instead of solutions.

BJP MP Parvesh Verma hailed the master plan as a “guarantee card” for a waterlogging-free Delhi and criticised former CM Arvind Kejriwal for failing to conduct any drainage study. “From now on, any drainage work in Delhi will be based on the master plan,” he asserted.

There was no immediate response from the AAP.
