New Delhi, 27th March. Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Arvind Kejriwal, announced that her husband will make a significant revelation regarding the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam that has caused turmoil within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). This scandal led to the Chief Minister’s arrest shortly before the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
Mrs. Kejriwal stated that the Chief Minister, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate and is currently in judicial custody until April 9, will disclose the whereabouts of the money related to the so-called liquor scam.
She criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for attacking Kejriwal after he issued directives to the city’s Public Works and Health Ministers, Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj.
According to Mrs. Kejriwal, her husband informed her that despite 250 raids conducted by probe agencies like the ED in the past two years in connection with the liquor policy case, no illegal money has been recovered so far. Raids were carried out on various individuals, including ex-Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, and former Health Minister Satyendar Jain, but no incriminating evidence was found.
Sisodia and Singh were arrested last year in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam, with Sisodia remaining in jail since February and Singh since October. Kejriwal’s arrest sparked protests across the city, with opposition parties like the Congress and Trinamool supporting the AAP leader.
Regarding the BJP’s criticism of Kejriwal’s directives from jail, Mrs. Kejriwal defended her husband’s actions and questioned the motives behind the attacks on him.
She also mentioned that Kejriwal has proof to support his claims and that he will reveal everything in court. She shared a message from her husband to the people of Delhi, stating, “My body is in jail, but my spirit is with you.”
Kejriwal is currently in the Delhi High Court challenging his arrest, with his lawyer arguing that the ED’s actions violated his human rights and were politically motivated.
The ED alleges that the now-defunct policy provided unusually high profit margins for retailers and wholesalers, with a portion of the profits allegedly being used to fund political campaigns. The AAP and opposition parties have accused the central government of targeting rivals and critics using agencies like the ED before elections.
The BJP has denied these allegations and dismissed claims of misusing central agencies for political gain.
