Kaziranga, 5th Oct: In a heartwarming moment on World Animal Day, Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve celebrated the birth of a female elephant calf, named ‘Mayabini’ after Zubeen Garg’s beloved song that has long resonated with fans.

The calf was born to Kuwari, one of Kaziranga’s most cherished elephants, bringing fresh joy to the famed sanctuary. Assam’s Environment, Forest & Climate Change Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary announced the name, saying it symbolises “new life, hope, and harmony in the wild.”

In a post on X, Patowary wrote: “Heartening news on #WorldAnimalDay – Kuwari, the elephant of @kaziranga_, has given birth to a healthy female calf! With immense affection and public goodwill, we’ve named her ‘MAYABINI’ – a symbol of new life, hope, and harmony in the wild.”

The song Mayabini, sung by Zubeen Garg and Kalpana Patowary, is a cultural favorite across Assam, and the naming has struck an emotional chord with wildlife lovers and music fans alike.
