Bengaluru, 20th Nov: The Karnataka government has issued a revised order to compensate people injured or killed in stray dog attacks across the Greater Bengaluru Region. The move aims to streamline relief disbursal and ensure immediate access to medical treatment.
Under the order, individuals who suffer skin punctures, deep bruising, lacerations or multiple bite injuries from stray dogs will receive ₹5,000. In the updated compensation structure, ₹3,500 will be paid directly to the victim by the Urban Development Department, while ₹1,500 will be transferred to the Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust to cover initial hospital treatment, enabling victims to seek timely care at private hospitals.
In cases where a stray dog attack or rabies infection resulting from a dog bite leads to death, families of the victim will be eligible for ₹5 lakh compensation.
The government has directed all municipal corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) to form Verification and Compensation Disbursement Committees. These panels will assess reported cases and ensure the timely distribution of benefits to affected citizens.
