Karnataka HC Refuses to Stay Ongoing Caste Survey

GG News Bureau
Bengaluru, 25th Sept: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday refused to stay the ongoing social and educational survey, commonly referred to as the caste survey.

The Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice C M Joshi, instructed the state government to maintain strict confidentiality of the data collected during the survey. The Court emphasized that the survey should remain voluntary.

“We do not find reason to interdict the ongoing survey,” the bench stated. “However, the data collected shall not be disclosed to anyone. The Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes (KSCBC) shall ensure that data is fully protected and confidential.”

The Court also directed the KSCBC to issue a public notification clarifying that participation in the survey is voluntary and that enumerators must inform respondents that no one is compelled to provide any information.
