Bengaluru, 18th Jan. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced on Thursday that 36 legislators and 39 Congress workers will be appointed to important positions in state-run boards and corporations. The list of appointments will be released soon.
Shivakumar, who is also the Karnataka Congress unit president, stated, “36 legislators and 39 party workers have been given positions in boards and corporations. These individuals have played a significant role in bringing the party to power in the state, and they are being rewarded accordingly.”
In addition, Shivakumar mentioned that a meeting of the party’s Lok Sabha election committee will take place the following day. The meeting will discuss the opinions collected from all constituencies by the district in-charge ministers.
When asked about some Ministers being hesitant to contest the Lok Sabha elections, Shivakumar responded, “If the party wants, everyone must contest, including myself. I am confident that the party will win at least 25 out of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka.”
Regarding the JD(S) joining the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, Shivakumar commented, “It is their decision.” He also recalled the previous alliance between the Congress and JD(S) in which they only won one seat each in the Lok Sabha elections.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 25 seats, while the Congress and JD(S) won one seat each. An independent candidate supported by the BJP also emerged victorious.
Addressing the reported comments from some BJP leaders about the Congress facing a setback in the Lok Sabha elections due to its stance on the Ram temple issue, Shivakumar stated, “There is Rama in Siddaramaiah (Chief Minister) and there is Shiva in Shivakumar. Faith is a personal matter, and I respect all religions. Politics should be guided by principles, but religion should not be politicized.”
