West Bengal, 25th Feb. A large-scale demonstration against “sexual abuse and land grab” by a Trinamool Congress strongman is taking place in Sandeshkhali, and a fact-finding team made up of former judges, bureaucrats, and members of civil society was detained by the West Bengal police on Sunday.

The group includes advocates OP Vyas and Bhavna Bajaj, former Chief Justice of the Patna High Court Justice L Narasimha Reddy, former IPS officer Raj Pal Singh, former member of the National Commission for Women Charu Wali Khanna, and senior journalist Sanjeev Nayak.

The members staged a sit-in protest after being stopped by the police, and they were later taken into custody. The fact-finding team claims they were halted in order to “conceal Sandeshkhali’s real story.” “We were stopped while on our way to Sandeshkhali…

The police have deliberately stopped us and are causing issues for the general public. Charu Wali Khanna said, “Police are not letting us meet the Sandeshkhali victims.”

In addition, they claimed that even though they were prepared to follow the Section 144 notice and travel in groups of two or three, the police would not permit them to continue. Following accusations earlier this month by a number of women of sexual assault and land grab by Trinamool Congress leader Shajahan Sheikh and his allies, there was unrest in Sandeshkhali. Since a crowd attacked Enforcement Directorate officials on January 5, Shahjahan has stayed out of sight.

According to the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, tribal families have filed 50 complaints against the TMC leader and his associates alleging “sexual abuse and land grab.” Officials from the state government reported that they had received nearly 1,250 complaints from the unrest-plagued area, 400 of which had to do with land.
