Jorhat,Assam 29th March : In a shocking and tragic incident, Assam’s Jorhat district was shaken by a powerful explosion that claimed the lives of two people, including a minor, and left two others critically injured on Saturday. The blast occurred at a rented house in Rajamaidam New Colony, reportedly linked to a scrap dealer, triggering panic and chaos in the locality.

According to police officials, the explosion was so intense that both victims died on the spot. The deceased have been identified as 40-year-old Noor Mohammad and eight-year-old Naina Begum.

Jorhat Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shubrajit Borah confirmed the incident and stated that the exact cause of the explosion remains unknown. A forensic team was immediately rushed to the scene to collect crucial evidence and determine the nature of the blast. Initial visuals from the site suggest severe structural damage to the house, raising suspicions about the presence of explosive materials or hazardous scrap.

The two injured victims, who sustained serious burn and blast injuries, were swiftly shifted to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital. Doctors have described their condition as critical, and they are currently undergoing intensive treatment.

As the investigation gains momentum, police have detained six individuals for questioning. Authorities are probing multiple angles, including whether explosive substances were unknowingly stored among scrap materials or if there was any foul play involved. The rented property and its usage are also under scrutiny, with officials examining ownership records and tenant activities.

Local residents reported hearing a loud, thunderous sound followed by thick smoke, which led to immediate panic in the neighborhood. Many rushed out of their homes fearing further explosions. Emergency response teams, including fire services and police personnel, acted promptly to secure the area and prevent any secondary incidents.

This tragic incident has raised serious concerns, making it crucial for authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to rule out any possibility of bomb-making activities or any larger conspiracy behind the explosion.

Meanwhile, authorities have assured that a thorough investigation is underway and that those responsible, if any negligence or illegal activity is found, will face strict action. The administration is also expected to review safety protocols to avoid similar incidents in the future.
