Srinagar, 12th Aug: The State Investigation Agency (SIA) today launched a series of raids across Srinagar, including at the residence of jailed Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik. The raids are being conducted at eight different locations in connection with the brutal abduction and murder of a Kashmiri Pandit nurse that took place in 1990.

The case, which dates back to the peak of militancy in Kashmir, involves a 27-year-old Kashmiri Pandit woman from Anantnag who worked as a nurse at the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Soura, Srinagar. She was reportedly abducted on April 14, 1990, from the institution’s Habba Khatoon hostel by terrorists allegedly linked to the JKLF.

According to police records, the victim was subjected to gang rape and torture for several days before her mutilated body was discovered with bullet marks on April 19, 1990, in Umar Colony, Mallabag. A note found on her body accused her of being a “police informer” for refusing to follow militant orders to either leave the valley or quit government jobs.

SIA teams, assisted by police and the CRPF, are currently searching the various locations as part of their renewed investigation into the decades-old case.
