Court seeks transcripts, asks him to add uploaders as parties

New Delhi, 2nd Dec: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Chaudhary appeared before the Delhi High Court on Monday after filing a petition seeking the removal of certain videos circulating on social media platforms.

The petition states that several videos posted on platforms such as Facebook and YouTube allegedly feature Chaudhary speaking to a woman over the phone, with “sexually suggestive” content attributed to him. Chaudhary has termed the material defamatory and sought its immediate takedown.

A Bench of Justice Amit Bansal heard the defamation plea and issued directions to social media intermediaries Google and Meta to furnish details of the pages and channels that uploaded the contested content. The court further instructed Chaudhary to make the original uploaders parties to the case, noting that they are necessary respondents.

During the proceedings, the High Court observed that Chaudhary had not supplied either the transcripts or the alleged defamatory videos along with his petition. The Bench directed him to provide the complete material for proper adjudication.

The matter has been listed for the next hearing on January 13.
