New Delhi, 7th Jan: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, PMO, Department of Space and Department of Atomic Energy Dr Jitendra Singh on Tuesday chaired a high-level review meeting of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) at Anusandhan Bhawan.
The Minister lauded CSIR’s efforts to develop indigenous capabilities in critical aerospace technologies, saying such initiatives would strengthen India’s self-reliance in the aviation sector and contribute to long-term economic growth. He underlined that scientific research must increasingly translate into employment generation, entrepreneurship, industrial scale-up and tangible societal benefits, particularly for the youth.
CSIR Director General and Secretary, DSIR, N Kalaiselvi presented the organisation’s forward-looking roadmap aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat. She highlighted mission-oriented research programmes, institutional reforms and strategies to convert scientific outputs into outcomes with direct economic and social relevance.
A key focus of the roadmap is a mission-mode programme to build indigenous aerospace capabilities, safeguard sensitive design and knowledge domains, and reduce external dependencies in strategic sectors. The initiative aims to support innovation-led growth and strengthen high-end research and development.
Dr Jitendra Singh also emphasised the need for decentralised and structured communication outreach by CSIR’s 37 laboratories across the country. He called for proactive engagement with media, industry and local communities to showcase achievements and highlight success stories related to startups, technology deployment, job creation and sectoral impact, ensuring that the value of publicly funded research is clearly communicated to citizens and policymakers alike.
