New Delhi, 5th March: Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh on Thursday presented awards to 26 young medical professionals from across the country who have excelled in various specialities including oncology, paediatrics, endocrinology, orthopaedics and emergency medicine.

Speaking at the award ceremony, the Minister appreciated the decision to recognise doctors who are at the early stage of their careers, noting that such honours serve as a major boost for young professionals compared to awards received later in life.

Dr Singh said that encouraging medical professionals during their formative years motivates them to pursue excellence and strengthens the future of healthcare services in the country.

Early recognition important for medical professionals
The Minister said that acknowledging talent early in a doctor’s career helps build confidence and inspires young medicos to continue serving society with greater commitment.

He expressed satisfaction that many of the awards at the conclave were presented to younger doctors rather than only to senior professionals who receive recognition at the end of their careers.

According to him, such recognition encourages doctors to push boundaries in medical research, treatment and patient care.

Healthcare sector undergoing transformation
Dr Singh highlighted that the healthcare sector is currently undergoing a major transformation due to rapid technological developments, particularly the growing use of artificial intelligence in diagnosis and treatment.

He noted that while advanced technologies have significantly improved healthcare systems, the role of doctors remains irreplaceable because clinical experience and human judgment remain central to patient care.

Need for specialisation in modern medicine
Reflecting on the evolution of medical science, the Minister said that earlier medical education often focused on studying a few diseases in depth to understand broader medical principles.

Today, however, the medical field has expanded into numerous specialisations with new treatment methods and technologies emerging rapidly.

In this changing environment, he advised young doctors to focus on a specific area of expertise and continue updating their knowledge regularly to keep pace with advancements.

Post-COVID healthcare challenges
Dr Singh also referred to the post-pandemic healthcare landscape, noting that both communicable diseases and lifestyle-related illnesses continue to challenge health systems.

This, he said, has increased the need for specialised knowledge and continuous learning among medical professionals.

Expressing confidence in the award recipients, the Minister said many of the young doctors honoured at the event would go on to achieve major milestones in their careers and could eventually receive lifetime achievement recognition for their contributions to the medical profession.
