Ranchi, 20th July: Jharkhand Health Minister Irfan Ansari has drawn sharp criticism from the Opposition BJP following a viral video purportedly showing his 19-year-old son, Krish, inspecting a prominent government hospital in Ranchi. While the BJP is leveraging this incident as part of its “dynasty politics” critique, the minister vehemently denies that his son was conducting an inspection, claiming he was there for a humanitarian visit.
The video, which circulated widely after being initially posted online by Krish’s friends, shows the engineering student at the Ranchi-based Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). In the footage, a voice can be heard instructing patients, “The minister’s son is here. Tell him if you have any problems.” Krish is then seen gesturing towards a man beside him, instructing, “Whatever problems you have, tell him.” He also appears to discuss medical bills with hospital authorities. Some visuals also show him with Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
Sharing the video on X (formerly Twitter), the Jharkhand BJP took a strong stance. State BJP spokesperson Ajay Sah criticized, “Just imagine to what level the cunning minds of these INDI thugs can stoop. Irfan Ansari, who is in charge of the health ministry of Jharkhand, is sitting at home and sending his son to inspect hospitals.” Sah further mocked, suggesting every ministry in Jharkhand should now allocate a cabin for the minister’s son, alleging that “symbols of dynasty are now being established instead of democracy.”
Minister Ansari, a Congress leader, has firmly denied the inspection claim. “My son is full of compassion and always wants to help others,” he stated. He explained that his son’s teacher’s parent was ill, and with Ansari himself in Delhi, Krish went to the hospital. He added that his son encountered other patients from tribal communities from Jamtara and Dumka and “took money from his mother” to assist them.
Ansari admitted to scolding his son upon learning of the controversy but defended his actions after visiting the hospital himself. “Why will he inspect? Who is he? Anyone can go to a hospital,” he argued. He also drew a comparison, stating, “My son did not crush a farmer during a protest,” referencing the 2012 Lakhimpur Kheri incident involving former Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra’s son. “If my son goes and helps people, it must be appreciated. What issue is this? I want to tell the BJP, there are many issues. Don’t drag my son into this.”
