Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren will distribute the first installment of the Abua Awas (housing) scheme to selected beneficiaries on January 23.

The scheme was launched on November 15 to provide houses to those who were not eligible for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

The first installment will be given during a program in Khunti district, where around 8,000 beneficiaries from Khunti and Simdega will receive the installments.

Another event for the scheme will be held in East Singhbhum district on January 29, where the Chief Minister will distribute installments to beneficiaries from East Singhbhum and Saraikela Kharswan districts.

The government received around 31 lakh applications for the scheme, out of which 29.97 lakh were accepted.

The government initially aimed to provide houses to eight lakh beneficiaries but decided to provide houses to all homeless or those living in kutcha houses based on the applications received. So far, 69% of the applications have been found eligible during field verifications.

Beneficiaries will receive Rs 2 lakh in four installments for the construction of a three-room house, which will be completed within 12 months. The government did not receive any new targets for the PMAY after March 2022.

Jharkhand had a target of building 15,92,171 houses under the PMAY, of which 15.58 lakh houses have already been completed, and the remaining 34,000 houses will be completed this year.
