Jharkhand Cabinet Announces New Welfare Schemes for Lawyers

Ranchi, 7th Sept. The Jharkhand cabinet has approved a series of significant measures for the welfare of lawyers in the state. In a decision made on Friday, chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the cabinet sanctioned a Rs 5 lakh medical insurance scheme for approximately 30,000 lawyers.

Additionally, the cabinet endorsed a proposal to increase the pension for advocates aged 65 and above from Rs 7,000 to Rs 14,000 per month. Newly enrolled advocates will also receive a stipend of Rs 5,000 monthly under the new scheme.

The cabinet allocated Rs 1.5 crore to the Jharkhand Advocate Welfare Fund Trustee Committee for the financial year 2024-25. This fund will support the monthly stipend of Rs 5,000 for newly enrolled advocates. A total grant of Rs 9 crore was also approved to provide benefits under the Jharkhand State Health Insurance Scheme.

Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan praised Jharkhand’s pioneering efforts in advocate welfare, calling it a model for the country. Chief Minister Soren emphasized that the initiative fulfills promises made to lawyers and will support young advocates, especially those from economically weaker backgrounds.

In addition to these measures, the cabinet approved the construction of a Rs 50 crore hostel for tribal students and expanded the Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Mainiya Samman Yojana to include women aged 18 and above, offering Rs 1,000 per month.

The cabinet also decided to withdraw from the centrally sponsored Fast Track Special Court Scheme while maintaining 22 Fast Track Special Courts for handling rape and POCSO cases within the state.
