Jammu-Kashmir: Encounter Continues Between Army and Terrorists in Shopian, Two Terrorists Killed, Search Operation Continues

Srinagar, 20th Oct. Two terrorists have been killed by security forces in an ongoing encounter in Drgad area of Shopian in Jammu and Kashmir. The search operation of police and army is going on in the area. Jammu and Kashmir Police gave this information.
Under the anti-terrorist operation, all people have been asked to stay indoors. Tight security arrangements have been made in the area. Police and security forces are on full alert. Police said that two unidentified terrorists have been killed in the encounter.
As the joint team of forces moved towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists opened fire on the security forces, following which an encounter broke out. A senior police officer also confirmed that there was a gunfight between the terrorists and the security forces. According to sources, two to three terrorists are feared trapped. Army officials said that people were alerted by making Munadi from local mosques. Security forces are preparing for the final strike against the terrorists.
Army Chief General MM Naravane had arrived on a two-day visit to the Jammu region regarding the ongoing encounter between the security forces and the terrorists. During this, he visited the forward areas along the Line of Control and several instructions were given to the security forces as part of the ongoing operation. Mukesh Singh, Additional Director General of Police, Jammu also visited Bhimber Gali on Sunday and expressed confidence of ending the militants soon.
Attempts have been made to track down a group of terrorists here since a week. So far nine soldiers have been martyred in this. Sources said that on Monday morning too there was heavy firing from both the sides. The first encounter between the two sides took place on October 11 in Dehra Ki Gali area of Poonch district, in which five army personnel, including a JCO, were killed. It was the deadliest encounter in the region in the last 17 years. The longest operation is being carried out in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
