Jalandhar, 17th July: A Jalandhar court has sentenced Tobias Masih, a former piano teacher at a missionary school, to 20 years in prison for the sexual abuse of a Class 4 student. The verdict, delivered by POCSO Act Special Judge Archna Kamboj, found Masih guilty of heinous acts, including blindfolding the victim during the abuse.
The case came to light on February 25, 2024, when the victim’s family filed a complaint against Masih at the Cantt police station. They alleged that Masih exploited his position as a piano teacher, taking their innocent daughter to a secluded, disused canteen within the school premises under the guise of teaching her piano, and then sexually assaulting her while her eyes were covered.
Investigation and Conviction
Upon receiving the complaint, the police promptly initiated an investigation and arrested Tobias Masih, a resident of Nandanpur, Maksudan, Jalandhar. The investigation further revealed that Masih had allegedly committed similar acts against two other girl students at the school.
After over a year of proceedings, the court of Special Judge Archna Kamboj heard arguments from both sides. On Tuesday, the court convicted Masih and handed down a stringent 20-year sentence. The conviction includes a 20-year sentence under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, 5 years under Section 10, 3 years under Section 12, and 2 years under Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). All sentences will run concurrently.
