New Delhi, 5th May. In response to Canada’s report that it had detained three Indians for the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in the previous year, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has responded. In June, in Surrey, Nijjar, 45, was shot and killed. Three Indian males were detained and charged with Nijjar’s murder by the Canadian Police on Friday.

Jaishankar ‘s reaction

Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar responded to the events by stating that he has heard about the arrests. The suspects “look to be Indians with some sort of gang background… we’ll have to wait for the police to tell us,” Jaishankar continued.

“But, as I said, one of our concerns which we have been telling them is that, you know, they have allowed organised crime from India, specifically from Punjab, to operate in Canada,” he continued.

Without providing further information, Canadian police stated they had collaborated with US law enforcement and hinted at the possibility of future detentions.

India demand’s specific and meaningful’ proof

The Indian government had earlier reiterated its demand for “specific and relevant evidence” regarding any purported participation of New Delhi, while characterizing the results of the preliminary inquiry into the Nijjar homicide case as an internal affair of Canada.

“I am aware that the arrests came about as a consequence of the appropriate Canadian law enforcement organizations’ investigations. The Indian High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma, stated, “We have no comments to make in this regard as this is an internal matter for Canada.

Having been made aware of the arrests, Verma stated that he wanted to “get regular updates from the concerned Canadian authorities regarding the arrested Indian nationals.”
