Jaishankar held meeting with Sergio Gor, discusses growing India-US partnership

WASHINGTON – External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on Saturday met with the US Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor at the Ministry of External Affairs, according to a press release issued.

They discussed the India-US relationship and its growing global significance.

MEA wrote in a post shared on X, “Pleased to meet Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor of the US today in New Delhi. Discussed the India-US relationship and its global significance. Wish him the best for his new responsibility.”

Jaishankar also shared the pictures from the meeting. Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources Michael J Rigas, also accompanied Gor during the visit.

Gor also met India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. Sharing the details of the meeting, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X.

“Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met US Ambassador-designate to India @SergioGor earlier today. They had a productive exchange on the India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and its shared priorities. FS wished Amb-designate Gor all success for his assignment.”

According to the US State Department, after his appointment, Gor along with Rigas is on a six-day visit to India until 14 October.

Gor, served as the White House personnel director and was a trusted advisor within Trump’s inner circle, was nominated in August as the U.S. Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.

He had thanked President Trump for the nomination, described it as both an honor and a reflection of “tremendous trust and confidence.”

The meeting came after an additional tariffs levied by the US on India.

Jaishankar met with Gor on September 24 on the sidelines of the UNGA session in New York.

Both leaders emphasized their dedication to strengthening the bilateral strategic partnership.

U.S. State Department highlighted the meeting as part of its ongoing initiatives to advance India–U.S. relations.
