Kolkata, 13th Jan. The Income Tax department raided and seized large amounts of currency notes from the properties of TMC MLA Zakir Hossain in Murshidabad and Kolkata.
The mountain of notes has once again struck West Bengal politics. Following Partha Chatterjee and the education scam involving him, the TMC is embroiled in yet another controversy. A total of Rs.10.90 crore was recovered from the residence of Zakir Hussain, TMC MLA from Murshidabad.
The Income Tax Department raided Zakir Hussain’s home and several of his factories late Wednesday night. During that raid, a large amount of money was recovered. The MLA is confident that he has all of the necessary documents, but the agencies have begun their investigation.
The Income Tax Department raided 28 different locations. 15 crore rupees were recovered during that raid. In addition, the Income Tax Department has recovered Rs.11 crore from Murshidabad alone, where Zakir is the MLA.
According to reports, the TMC MLA owns a substantial beedi business with several factories. As the Income Tax Department was watching those factories, raids were conducted there as well during the investigation.
Hussain also owns a rice mill in Raghunathganj and is the target of an income tax raid there as well. The house of a close friend of the TMC MLA was also raided.
