Isfahan, 21st June: In a major escalation, Israel has launched a second wave of airstrikes targeting Iran’s Isfahan nuclear facility, just hours after Iran fired five ballistic missiles toward central Israel in a retaliatory move. The strikes follow the initial June 13 attacks by the Israeli Air Force (IAF) that targeted Iran’s military and nuclear infrastructure.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), nearly 50 fighter jets participated in the overnight operation, focusing heavily on the uranium conversion facility and nuclear fuel plant at Isfahan — a key hub in Iran’s nuclear program. An Israeli official told AFP that the strikes have “deepened our achievements and advanced the damage to the facility.”
The official also claimed that the latest operation targeted “a couple more centrifuge production sites,” stating that repeated airstrikes have “dealt a severe blow to Iran’s centrifuge production capabilities.” Centrifuges are vital for uranium enrichment, a critical step in nuclear weapons development.
Iranian state media outlet Fars reported no hazardous material leakage from the targeted facilities.
Meanwhile, in retaliation for the continued Israeli offensive, Iran fired five ballistic missiles toward central Israel at around 2:40 a.m. on Saturday. Air raid sirens were triggered across Tel Aviv and nearby towns. Israeli air defences successfully intercepted all incoming projectiles, although debris from one interception caused a fire on the roof of a residential building. The blaze was quickly contained by emergency services, and no injuries were reported.
Since June 13, Israeli officials claim Iran has launched over 470 ballistic missiles and around 1,000 drones targeting various parts of Israel. The IAF stated that 40 drones were intercepted overnight and several missile launchers in Iran were destroyed. Guided by intelligence from the IDF’s Directorate of Military Intelligence, Israel also struck a dual-barrel UAV launcher and additional targets in Isfahan that were allegedly preparing to fire at Israeli territory.
