Tehran, 29th March: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has threatened to target US-affiliated university campuses in the Middle East, escalating tensions following reported strikes on academic institutions in Iran.
In a statement carried by Iranian media, the IRGC warned that US universities operating in the Gulf region could face retaliation unless Washington officially condemns the alleged bombing of Iranian universities by a specified deadline.
The statement also advised employees, professors, students and residents near such campuses to maintain a distance of at least one kilometre, signalling heightened security concerns across the region.
Several prominent American universities operate campuses in the Gulf, including Texas A&M University in Qatar and New York University in the United Arab Emirates.
The warning comes after overnight strikes reportedly hit areas in Tehran, including the University of Science and Technology, causing damage to buildings but no reported casualties.
The development marks a sharp escalation in rhetoric amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel, raising concerns over the safety of educational institutions and civilians in the region.
Authorities and institutions have yet to issue detailed responses, but the situation is being closely monitored as tensions continue to rise.
