Iran Slams Trump Over ‘Disrespectful’ Khamenei Remark, Denies Talks

Tehran/New York, 28th June: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Saturday lashed out at former US President Donald Trump over what he termed “disrespectful and unacceptable” remarks made against Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Responding to Trump’s explosive claims on social media platform Truth Social, where he said he had “saved” Khamenei from an “ugly and ignominious death,” Araghchi accused the former US president of undermining diplomatic efforts and insulting millions of Iranians.

“If President Trump is genuine about wanting a deal, he should put aside the disrespectful and unacceptable tone towards Iran’s Supreme Leader… and stop hurting his millions of heartfelt supporters,” Araghchi posted on social media platform X.

Trump’s remarks followed US strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites last weekend, as Washington backed Israel’s bombardment of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure during the 12-day-long conflict that erupted on June 13. The former US president claimed he had actively prevented an assassination of Khamenei, alleging that he had access to the leader’s location but blocked any strike by either Israeli or American forces.

“I knew EXACTLY where he was sheltered, and would not let Israel, or the U.S. Armed Forces… terminate his life,” Trump posted. “I SAVED HIM FROM A VERY UGLY AND IGNOMINIOUS DEATH, and he does not have to say, ‘THANK YOU, PRESIDENT TRUMP!’”

Trump further stated that he had been working on lifting sanctions—a key Iranian demand—but had “immediately dropped all work on sanction relief” after receiving what he called a “statement of anger, hatred, and disgust” from Tehran.

In a strongly worded response, Araghchi declared that “the great and powerful Iranian people” would not tolerate threats and insults. “The Israeli regime had NO CHOICE but to RUN to ‘Daddy’ to avoid being flattened by our Missiles,” he said, underscoring Iranian defiance amid the ongoing crisis.

Meanwhile, Tehran officially denied Trump’s assertion that nuclear negotiations between the two nations would resume next week. Iranian officials reiterated that no talks are currently scheduled and dismissed Trump’s comments as political posturing.

The latest diplomatic flare-up comes amid heightened regional tensions and international concern over Iran’s nuclear ambitions, as well as the future of US-Iran relations in a volatile geopolitical landscape.
