Indore: 101 Government Schools Declared ‘Tobacco-Free’

GG News Bureau
Indore, 10th June: In a major public health victory for Indore, 101 government schools across the district have now been officially declared “tobacco-free.” This significant achievement is the result of a strong joint effort by the district administration, education department, and health officials, all working under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP).

Led by Collector Ashish Singh, these 101 schools successfully met all the requirements of the Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions guidelines, scoring an impressive 90 percent or higher.

A special district-level ceremony is set for June 11, 2025, at 11:30 AM at the Government Excellence School, Bal Vinay Mandir. Divisional Commissioner Deepak Singh will oversee the event, where these schools will receive their well-earned certificates.

Siddharth Jain, Co-District Nodal and Chief Executive Officer of the District Panchayat, explained that the initiative went beyond just banning tobacco sales on school grounds. Special workshops were also held to teach students and teachers about the dangers of tobacco. This focused campaign aims to protect young people from tobacco addiction and create healthier environments, especially as concerns grew about tobacco sales near schools and rising youth addiction. The success truly highlights the combined efforts of the police, education, and health departments.
