Mumbai, 16th Aug: An IndiGo Airbus A321 aircraft experienced a tail strike in Mumbai today while attempting a low-altitude go-around maneuver due to unfavorable weather conditions, the airline confirmed in a statement. The aircraft, which was flying from Bangkok, landed safely on its second approach.
A tail strike occurs when the back of the aircraft touches the runway, typically during takeoff or landing. A go-around is a standard safety procedure where a pilot aborts a landing to make another attempt. The airline stated that the aircraft has been taken out of service to undergo necessary checks and repairs before resuming operations, following standard safety protocols.
This marks the seventh tail strike incident for IndiGo’s A321 fleet in about two years. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had previously penalized the airline for similar incidents, citing “systemic deficiencies” in its operations, training, and engineering procedures.
