Jodhpur, 9th June: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today said that India is emerging as a global leader in addressing contemporary challenges, powered by the energy, innovation, and resolve of its youth. Inaugurating the Lecture Hall Complex–II at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jodhpur, Birla highlighted the pivotal role of Indian youth in transforming the country’s socio-economic and technological landscape.
He remarked that India’s young population is now moving from being job seekers to becoming job providers, significantly strengthening the startup ecosystem. “There is growing global demand for Indian youth equipped with skills and innovative ideas,” he stated, urging them to become active stakeholders in the country’s journey towards Viksit Bharat.
Birla underlined India’s unique position on the world stage, driven by the dual forces of modern science and its profound spiritual heritage. This blend, he noted, ensures progress that is not only rapid but also ethical, inclusive, and sustainable. He commended India’s strides in self-reliance, citing examples ranging from indigenous toy manufacturing to advanced defence production under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Addressing students and faculty, Birla lauded the IIT system’s contribution in shaping India’s innovation landscape. He emphasized that every college and university should strive to become centres of excellence and innovation. “Educational institutions must go beyond rote learning and promote creativity, entrepreneurship, and industry-academia collaboration,” he said.
He also praised the transformative role played by IIT Jodhpur in nurturing scientific temper and fostering a culture of innovation, particularly in the desert region of Rajasthan. “Under the visionary leadership of Director Prof. Avinash K Agarwal, the institute has made notable advances in defence technology and sustainable development in line with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision,” Shri Birla added.
Recognizing the institution’s efforts in a geographically challenging region, the Speaker said IIT Jodhpur stands as a beacon of hope, enabling youth to access world-class education and research opportunities.
On the occasion, Birla distributed ‘Research Initiative Grants’ to encourage innovative projects, launched the new official website of the Institute, and planted a sapling on the campus, symbolizing growth and sustainability.
