New Delhi, 8th Oct:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 9th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, Asia’s largest telecom, media, and technology event, in New Delhi on Wednesday. In his address, the Prime Minister lauded India’s rapid advancements in digital innovation, noting that the nation’s progress in areas like quantum communication, 6G, and financial fraud prevention showcased the strength of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.

“The India Mobile Congress and the country’s success in the telecom sector reflect the strength of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision,” the Prime Minister said, highlighting India’s transition from a technology consumer to a global innovator. He emphasised that India’s telecom ecosystem — marked by a six-fold increase in electronics production and a 28-fold rise in mobile manufacturing since 2014 — was a testament to this transformation.

PM Modi also underscored the role of the Telecom Technology Development Fund in fostering indigenous innovation and reiterated the government’s focus on cybersecurity and consumer protection under the new Telecommunications Act, which facilitates faster approvals and network expansion. “India’s Made-in-India 4G stack signifies our self-reliance and readiness to export technology, contributing to the India 6G Vision 2030,” he said.

India No Longer a Technology Consumer: Scindia

Speaking on the occasion, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia underlined India’s transformation from a technology consumer to a co-creator of global innovation. “India is no longer a mere consumer of technology. We strive to be the architects of the future of technology,” he asserted.

Scindia said India’s 6G ambitions could contribute $1.2 trillion to the GDP by 2035, with the goal of securing 10% of global 6G patents. He also projected that the satellite communications market would triple by 2033, aided by the success of the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and the country’s expanding digital public infrastructure. The minister further highlighted a 98% drop in mobile data costs, calling it a reflection of India’s digital empowerment and inclusion.

International 6G Symposium 2025: Building the Future of Connectivity

Later in the day, Minister Scindia and Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary (Telecom), inaugurated the International 6G Symposium 2025 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. The symposium brought together global policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to deliberate on standardisation, research collaboration, and India’s leadership in the global 6G ecosystem.

On this occasion, the Bharat 6G Alliance signed two MoUs — one with NASSCOM and another with the European Space Agency — to promote joint participation in technology development. The Alliance also released four whitepapers:

  1. Spectrum Roadmap for 6G in India
  2. Powering Next-Gen Telecom
  3. AI and Network Evolution to 5G
  4. 6G Architecture, Security and Exposure Framework for RF Sensing

joint declaration on 6G principles was also showcased and will be officially released on October 10, 2025.

Reiterating India’s leadership vision, Scindia said, “India is here not to follow, but to co-lead the 6G revolution.” He emphasised indigenous R&Dglobal collaboration, and affordable access as the three pillars of India’s 6G roadmap.

IMC 2025 Exhibition Showcases 400+ Tech Innovations

Earlier, Minister Scindia, Minister of State for Communications Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, and Secretary Dr. Neeraj Mittal inaugurated the IMC 2025 Exhibition Hall, featuring over 400 participants from leading industries and startups. They explored innovations in semiconductors, optical communications, satellite tech, and quantum communications, reflecting India’s growing dominance in next-generation connectivity.

The India Mobile Congress 2025, jointly organised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), will be held from October 8 to 11 under the theme “Innovate to Transform.”

The event aims to showcase India’s digital transformation and its leadership in 6G, cyber fraud prevention, and semiconductor technology, reaffirming the nation’s ambition to emerge as a global hub for digital innovation and connectivity.
