India’s Coal Production and Dispatch See Significant Growth in May 2024

 India’s coal production and dispatches witnessed notable growth in May 2024, as reported by the Ministry of Coal. The country’s coal production reached 83.91 million tonnes (MT) (Provisional), marking a 10.15% increase compared to the 76.18 MT produced in the same period last year.

Coal India Limited (CIL) played a significant role in this growth, achieving a production of 64.40 MT (Provisional), which is a 7.46% rise from the 59.93 MT produced in May 2023. Furthermore, production by Captive and other entities surged by 32.76%, reaching 13.78 MT (Provisional) compared to 10.38 MT in the previous year.

Similarly, coal dispatches in May 2024 saw a 10.35% growth, totaling 90.84 MT (Provisional) up from 82.32 MT in the corresponding period last year. CIL’s dispatches amounted to 69.08 MT (Provisional), an 8.50% increase from the 63.67 MT dispatched in May 2023. Dispatches by Captive and other entities also rose significantly, recording 16 MT (Provisional), a 29.33% increase from 12.37 MT the previous year.

As of now, the total coal stock with coal companies stands at 96.48 MT. Of this, Coal India Limited holds 83.01 MT, while Captive and other companies have a stock of 8.28 MT.
