Mumbai, 2nd Nov: India’s women’s cricket team etched its name in history by winning the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup with a commanding 52-run victory over South Africa in the final at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai.

Chasing the trophy, India posted 298/7 in their 50 overs, riding on solid contributions from Smriti Mandhana (45), Shafali Verma (87), and strategic innings from Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues. The bowling attack then triggered a South African collapse, with Deepti Sharma claiming five key wickets and captain Kaur taking a stunning catch to wrap up the win.

Smriti Mandhana’s 45-run knock was significant not just in the final, but because it broke India’s long-standing Women’s World Cup run-scoring record — previously held by Mithali Raj.

Earlier in the tournament, India stunned the defending champions Australia in the semi-final, chasing a massive target of 339 thanks to Jemimah Rodrigues’ unbeaten 127 and spirited support from the team.

This victory marks a watershed moment for Indian women’s cricket — the first time India has lifted the Women’s ODI World Cup. The team’s blend of clutch batting, disciplined bowling, and sharp fielding under Harmanpreet Kaur’s leadership broke new ground, and signals the start of a new era.

India now stands at the summit of women’s cricket, and the performance will inspire a generation of young women sportspersons across the country.

As celebrations erupted across the nation, the win was hailed as a moment of pride and empowerment for women’s sports in India — a testament to determination, teamwork, and unyielding spirit.
