This marked the first time the tricolor has ever flown from the city’s most recognizable structure, which was built for the 1962 World’s Fair.

The occasion celebrated the strong bonds between India and the US Pacific Northwest region, as well as the significant contributions of the Indian-American diaspora.

The Consul General of India in Seattle, Prakash Gupta, joined Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell and other city leaders to witness the flag-raising. A community reception was also held at Kerry Park, providing a sweeping view of the city’s skyline with the tricolor visible atop the Space Needle.

Several prominent US dignitaries, including U.S. Congressman Adam Smith, Chief Justice of the Washington Supreme Court Debra L. Stephens, and Seattle Port Commissioner Sam Cho, attended the event. Congressman Smith noted that the tricolor’s presence on the Space Needle is a tribute to the region’s diversity and the enduring ties between the two nations.
