Mumbai, 2nd May: The Indian stock market witnessed a flat start on the first trading day of May 2025. On Friday, the BSE Sensex opened with a marginal gain of 57.95 points at 80,300.19, while the NSE Nifty 50 index began the day with a slight loss of 22.30 points at 24,311.90.
This follows a similar trend observed on Wednesday, where the Indian market also opened on a flat note. On that day, the BSE Sensex had opened higher by 82.42 points at 80,370.80, and the Nifty 50 had started trading with a minor gain of 6.10 points at 24,342.05.
Adani Ports Shares Witness Significant Surge
Looking at the sectoral performance at the opening, 23 out of the 30 companies listed on the Sensex started the day in green, while the remaining 7 opened in the red. Similarly, on the Nifty 50, 23 stocks saw positive movement, 24 experienced losses, and 3 remained unchanged at the opening bell.
Adani Ports emerged as the top gainer among the Sensex constituents, opening with a robust gain of 3.69 percent. On the other hand, Asian Paints (represented as “एटरनल” which is likely a transcription error) saw the biggest dip, opening with a decline of 2.58 percent.
IT Stocks Show Positive Momentum
Among other prominent companies on the Sensex, Mahindra & Mahindra opened with a gain of 1.41 percent, followed by Axis Bank at 1.03 percent, TCS at 1.01 percent, Infosys at 0.93 percent, HCL Tech at 0.79 percent, HDFC Bank at 0.76 percent, ICICI Bank at 0.72 percent, Bharti Airtel at 0.64 percent, ITC at 0.63 percent, Maruti Suzuki at 0.62 percent, State Bank of India at 0.58 percent, Reliance Industries at 0.54 percent, Kotak Mahindra Bank at 0.53 percent, UltraTech Cement at 0.47 percent, and Larsen & Toubro at 0.43 percent.
Conversely, stocks like Titan opened with a loss of 0.48 percent, Nestle India at 0.30 percent, Bajaj Finserv at 0.24 percent, IndusInd Bank at 0.21 percent, NTPC at 0.04 percent, and Tata Motors at 0.02 percent.
Overall, the Indian stock market displayed a cautious start to the new trading month, with specific sectors and stocks showing divergent trends. Investors will be closely watching the market movements throughout the day for further direction.
